Medeconomics surveyed practices across the UK on the rates they charge for 18 commonly requested non-NHS services, so that all practices can benchmark themselves against the figures.
We received 603 responses to the survey, undertaken during September and October 2015, with the majority of practices located in England and in urban areas.
The following fees have been updated:
- Private health insurance claim form
- School fees insurance claim form
- Holiday/travel insurance: cancellation claim
- Income protection insurance claim
- Assessment of capacity certificate COP3 no examination
- Assessment of capacity certificate COP3 with examination
- Private sick note
- Private patient consultation
- Private prescription charge
- Private blood test
- DNA paternity test
- Adoption/fostering health assessment (form AH)
- Adoption/fostering update report (form AH2)
- Driving - full physical medical examination and report
- Driving - report no examination
- Fitness to exercise
- Fitness to attend school
- Shotgun firearm license
Other findings from the survey
Some 31% of practices responding to the survey said that income from private and professional fees had decreased in the past 12 months. Only 9% said that fees had increased.
Some 23% of practices said that they were planning to take steps to increase their earnings from private and professional fees over the coming year. When asked how they planned to do this, the majority of respondents said that they planned to review or increase the fees they charge for this work.
Many others said they planned to increase the amount of private services they provided and be more consistent with how they charge for these services.
